Although most of the H10-44s disappeared from the railroad scene by the mid 1970's, the locomotives earned their place in history by establishing Fairbanks-Morse as an important player in the diesel motive power industry. FACT: The "H" in H10-44 stood for its hood type construction. The "10" represents the horsepower rating in thousands and the "44" is a railroad designation for the B-B wheel arrangement.
